P2P UK Lenders Rise Above £4bn Level, Says AltFi Data

The rise and rise of crowdfunding in general, and the peer-to-peer (P2P) business-lending sector in particular, continues.

New figures from AltFi Data show that UK P2P lenders’ cumulative business now stands at more than £4 billion. Britain is way ahead of the rest of Europe, which together amounts to just over £1 billion.

“As we often say, we’re all about bringing people together with businesses, and P2P business lending has to be one of the very best innovations that crowdfunding has brought about,” says Nicola Horlick, CEO of Money&Co. “It can be a win-win situation. The borrowing companies get low-cost credit to help them build their businesses, and the lenders can get excellent returns on their money. However, it’s very important to remember that there can be no profit without risk.”

Data and Risk

While we vet our loans carefully, capital is at risk, as the Peer-to-Peer Finance Association rightly points out (see earlier stories on this point). Potential lenders should always read the risk warnings on site before lending, and advice from an accountant, or other professional adviser is recommended if you feel you don’t understand the relationship between reward and risk properly.

The Liberum AltFi Data indices have been created with the intention of increasing visibility within the alternative finance sector. AltFi data believe that bringing transparent metrics to the sector will improve its profile and further enhance the sector’s appeal to investors.

The European Liberum AltFi Volume Index is the market leading P2P index, tracking the growth of the European industry from inception. The index is updated daily and users can use our interactive graphs and charts to explore the evolution of the industry.
